Do you need in-depth information from customers, members, in-house personnel,
or distribution channel (or others) to improve your organization's performance?
Interviewing offers greater flexibility in probing the answers of those being
interviewed.
Interviewing also increases the response rate and ensures that the selected
respondent is answering the questions instead of someone not selected.
Predesigned Interviewing
The more common interview is the structured interview with predesigned questions.
Free Form Interviewing
There is the free form interview where the interviewer has a topic but no predesigned
questions. This is most often done when very little is known about the topic or when
it is important to capture the respondent's perspective and own words.
Interviewing allows for:
the observation of nonverbal behavior
the interviewer to control the order of questions
recording spontaneous answers
assurance that all questions are answered
the recording of any important events that may affect the interview
