Overview of the Process

Typically the main stages include:     For the stages in greater detail
  1. Establish guidelines for Web site administration, content, work
    process, etc.
  2. Identify the main objectives for the site.
  3. Outline goals for the Web site
  4. Develop information architecture
  5. Storyboard pages and links.
  6. Select the presentation style.
  7. Acquire, develop or repurpose text for the Web pages / files.
  8. Select and prepare page graphics.
  9. Plan interactive elements.
  10. Create a value-adding strategy.
  11. If customer service and support is to be offered, create a strategy and determine the formats it will take.
  12. Write the HTML code and adjunct programming for the pages; create sectional templates, design and/or developed database(s) if applicable.
  13. Usability (Alpha) testing by individuals within each target audience.
  14. Proof the work for errors, possible misinterpretations of the presentation, potential legal matters, and other things requiring correction.
  15. Pages are uploaded to the host server/computer for online viewing via the Web.
  16. Usability (Beta) testing by individuals from target audiences, in-house staff and select others.
  17. Announce & launch the Web site & begin PR campaign.
  18. Index and list the site in search engine and directory services databases. ("seeding")
